He
threw his cigarette butt into a puddle and tried to light a new one.
Click,
click.
Fucking
lighter.
Eyes
were staring at his back.
Click,
click.
He
turned around.
“What?”
Neil
flinched.
“Nothing.”
Click,
click.
Click,
click.
Neil
was still staring at him.
Click,
click. Click, Click.
This
was driving him crazy.
“Damn
it, what do you want?”
Click,
click.
“Nothing,
I – I thought we could tal-”
“Not
now. I'm busy. “
Click,
click. Blast the thing!
Neil
took a deep breath.
Click,
click.
“Dad,
I wanted to -”
“Bloody
hell, shut up, will you?”
Click,
click.
He
looked into Neil's face. It was all wet.
Click,
click.
“I
didn't – I'm not in the mood for talking right now.”
Click,
click. He didn't look up again.
The
minutes went by.
Click,
click.
The
lighter clicked with a final noise and inflamed the cigarette. He
closed his eyes and inhaled the nicotine.
“Asshole.”
He
opened his eyes.
Neil
was gone.
His
cigarette was soaking wet.
Fucking
rain.
